There will come moments in life when you may think that you’re going the right direction, only to realize half-way down the road, you took the wrong path.
When I started college, I entered as an architect major. I changed my major from architecture to neuroscience to English to dietetics to Italian. I change my major four times. I u-turned four different times.
My family panicked when I announced that I’d be graduating with a degree in Italian Literature and Language, mostly because jobs for second languages don’t make headlines. By my 3rd year, I was translating for some folks overseas. And now, in my last semester, I’m looking at prospects of a Fulbright grant and/or continuing research on the east coast.
My point is that sometimes we have a change of heart, which can be scary. One day you’re going down a path, realize you’re not satisfied and see the greener grass. It’s okay to venture off your set path. It’s also okay if you don’t trust your decision right away.
When you reflect on your life, how many plans played out exactly the way you imagined?
Just because you’ve changed your mind does not mean that you are a failure. Just because your plans didn’t play out as originally imagined does not mean that you are failure.
You are not failure. You are allowed to change your mind. You have the time to adjust and move around.
Repeat after me: I am not a failure. I am allowed to change my mind. I have the time to adjust and move around.
If you’re searching for answers to a conquest that you’re not sure is “right” for you, this is your assurance that you can make this decision. You won’t be abandoned. You won’t be unloved. Try to find some closure in reflecting on your fears. I’m not promising it will be painless, but I am saying that you’ll be better for it.
