Anything with Melissa McCarthy automatically has me in theaters. I’m so glad to see her back on the big screen in an all-female featured classic! To go with that bad boy classic, I’m making a different kind of classic inspired by the SONY production!
This recipe is really easy and fun to make with kids, especially with the green “slime”!
The first step is to divvy up your ingredients. I like to do this by being sure my cereal is measured out, the marshmallow bags are opened, and the butter is ready to be put into that saucepan. This allows me to move faster.
Heat your medium- or large-sized sauce pan to medium-high. Add the butter and stir continuously. Don’t let the butter brown. If your butter is bubbling, turn down the heat until it’s at a steady melting pace.
Once your butter is melted, add a bag and a half of the mini-marshmallows. Save the other half of the second bag for later.
Coat the marshmallows in the melted butter. Continue to stir as the marshmallows melt. Once the marshmallows are almost completely melted (you want some lumps), remove the saucepan from the stove.
Add in your cereal. Thoroughly mix the cereal and marshmallows. Add the rest of the bag of marshmallows. If you have any extras, like M&M’s, now is the time to add them.
Turn mixture onto a sprayed 9×13 pan. Press the treats down into the pan until your top is flat and even. Place into fridge to cool.
Next, heat the heavy whipping cream to melt your white chocolate. I used specific white chocolate melting chips for this. However, buying a block of white chocolate and shaving off the amount also works fantastically.
Once the white chocolate is completely melted and mixed, stir in green dye until your desired color appears. I recommend doing this 3-5 drops at a time, and 1-2 drops at a time once the chocolate gets closer to your preference.
Once Rice Krispie treats have completely cooled (about 1.5-2 hours later), cut into 12 even pieces. This recipe can also make 24 smaller pieces as well. Place the treats onto a plate. Pour white chocolate mixture over the top and allow to solidify (about 15 min at room temp).
This recipe is a crowd-pleaser, especially at Halloween functions! Or, munch on them with popcorn during your family movie night.
