I did something like this recently when I reflected on the year for my birthday post, but I wanted to write an official post to celebrate! A lot of these are my personal pictures (hence the grainier, lower quality shots) that may or may not have appeared on the blog before. I’m doing these in the order that they happened so it’s easier! So enjoy!
1. MISSION SAN XAVIER + A TIFFANY’S VALENTINE’S DAY!
Our 4 year dating anniversary fell just one day away from Valentine’s Day! So, usually we’d celebrate it all together. One of our favorite things is exploring Mission San Xavier, which is about 30 minutes out of Tucson. It has this breathtaking interior decorated with Mexican art. It was a picturesque day! We even had a picnic outside overlooking the grounds.
The next morning was Valentine’s day! Josh made me breakfast in bed and it was amazing. We spent the whole day goofing around and relaxing. In addition, that weekend he bought me a Tiffany’s necklace! I was so excited to get my first key necklace. I love that Tiffany blue color. The whole weekend was perfect!
2. GETTING ENGAGED!
Such a fond memory! Josh had surprised me with a trip to Sedona (see point #3) where he proposed! This is one of my favorite memories ever. It was perfect from A to Z. I was so excited to marry Josh! Though I don’t think I’ve ever typed out what he specifically did, let’s just say there were lots and lots of red rose petals and candles and joy! Maybe for our wedding Q + A, I’ll actually tell you all exactly what happened, but for now, I’ll leave you with that!
3. SEDONA: ROUND ONE
After getting engaged, we spent the weekend in Sedona. While there, we hiked up to Cathedral Rock for some gorgeous panoramic views of the red rocks. We also tried out a couple restaurants around town! This also included hitting up our favorites, like Heartline Cafe. We stayed at the Los Abrigados Hotel across from Tlaquepaque Village. Our room had beautiful views of the red rocks, especially at sunset. I think one of my favorite parts was just driving around little Sedona! It’s such a small town with so many gems (not to mention those views!).
4. CENTRAL CALIFORNIA ADVENTURES
In spring, we roadtripped it out to the central coast to my favorite little California town, San Luis Obispo. I’ve been going there for years and this was Josh’s second time in SLO. We nixed all the touristy stuff and just relaxed and had fun in SLO! We ate lots of ice cream and drank fantastic ice cream. One of my favorite parts were our morning and afternoon walks on the beach. Total dream!
That same trip, we traveled south to my hometown, San Diego. There, I met up with my girls! We had coffee at a little shop in Little Italy. It was so refreshing and great to catch up them. I miss them terribly while I live in Tucson. We also spent some time with the family at home!
I graduate in December 2015, but Josh graduated in May 2016! He has a BS in Psychology and I’m super proud of him! He had worked so hard. He payed his way through school while maintaining a fantastic GPA. He’s still friends with many of his professors (one came to our wedding!). Originally, I wasn’t planning on going to the University of Arizona’s graduation convocation with him. Technically, I was allowed to because I graduated in that academic year, but it seemed so long ago to me. He finally convinced me to go and I’m happy he did! It was amazing to stand next to him in our graduation gowns and celebrate our accomplishments as a couple. Also, listening to the Surgeon General’s (Vivek Murthy) speech was one of the most inspiring things I’ve experience!
6. EXPLORING + ENJOYING TUCSON
Since we have both graduated, we have now had time to spend exploring and enjoying Tucson. I think we’ve most enjoyed all the excellent little coffee shops around town. They’re the perfect places to grab an amazing cup of coffee and get focused on your project (mainly this blog!). Our absolute favorite place is Cartels. We think they have the best coffee in town. Crave comes in at a close second!
Another place we’ve been loving is our local bookstore, Antigone Books! We are such book nerds. I love writing book reviews for some of my favorites. In fact, right now I have a huge pile of books to get through because we’ve spent so much time there! We are not the kind of people that can walk out of a bookstore empty handed. And the best part about Antigone? Yup, they have a “buy 10 books get 1 free” stamper card. That’s my kind of bookstore.
7. MOVING IN TOGETHER
Part of the “getting married” process was moving in together! Before getting married, Josh and I lived in two separate apartments. Neither of us had roommates. And, we both have huge dogs! The dogs would play with each other all the time, of course. And now, they’ve bonded even more living together! Creating our space together has been such a wonderful experience. Picking out decor and choosing which photos to put where and making the space our own was an incredible bonding experience.
8. BACHELORETTE PARTY
My maid of honor/best friend threw an awesome bachelorette party! I’m not a wild child when it comes to these things. Ultimately, I wanted a night with my favorite girls: catching up on their lives, laughing, enjoying each other’s company. And that’s exactly what we did! It was the absolute best. Unfortunately, we didn’t snag any photos because we were too busy having a blast! I wish I at least got a picture of the view because Darcy hooked us up with an amazing hotel room overlooking San Diego! So above are some photos from a couple years ago!
9. GETTING MARRIED!
Okay, hands down, this is the best memory! It was amazing to get married to my favorite person in the whole world. The whole day seems like it was a dream. And it went by so quickly!! The ceremony was roughly an hour (it felt like a minute) and photos probably took another hour and a half, maybe two (it felt like fifteen minutes!). It was so fun to have our friends out there. They all traveled from somewhere to celebrate with us! Some had been to Sedona before; others have never been. So, it was exciting to share their joy of just being there!
10. SEDONA: ROUND TWO
This goes with #9 a bit! Since we got married in Sedona, we stuck around for some time in between to enjoy Sedona again! We also found the BEST coffee we’ve ever had (and we’ve had lots and lots). It’s from Creekside Coffee and they’re amazing. Not to mention, they have huge comfy arm chairs and a phenomenal view of the red rocks in their cafe! You can read more about the trip here!
